Shailene Woodley went on The Late Show to talk about how we can keep up the fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline

“The front lines don’t necessarily have to be in North Dakota,” she explained. “The front lines can be wherever you are. You can create a protest in New York City, because protests are about awareness and about people coming together.” She also had some comments about the one thing she wished she’d known when she was taking her now-famous mug shot.

Modesty Rules for Men and Women

rockofaces:

emeraldboreas:

Women

Dress in a way you feel honors God.

If you’re convicted of dressing inappropriately, change.

If you are proud of how modest you are, repent.

If you compare/contrast yourself to other people and judge their lack of modesty, repent.

If you dress modestly to make yourself righteous, read the Bible.

If you derive self-worth from how covered up you are, read the Bible.

If someone is dressed in such a way that fills you with lust, look away. You have control over this. Don’t you dare blame the other person for “making” you sin.

Men

Dress in a way you feel honors God.

If you’re convicted of dressing inappropriately, change.

If you are proud of how modest you are, repent.

If you compare/contrast yourself to other people and judge their lack of modesty, repent.

If you dress modestly to make yourself righteous, read the Bible.

If you derive self-worth from how covered up you are, read the Bible.

If someone is dressed in such a way that fills you with lust, look away. You have control over this. Don’t you dare blame the other person for “making” you sin.

Nonbinary people

Valentines lilies kill kitties!

why-animals-do-the-thing:

Just a reminder, if you’re sending flowers for the 14th, make sure bouquets going to houses with cats don’t contain lilies! Every bit of them, even pollen, is super toxic to cats and should not be in the same building with them.

Most traditional flowers like roses, tulips, lilies, peonies etc are toxic to cats. It’s almost impossible to create a save bouquet.
Here’s a thought: Just send them cat toys, or cat food, or cat treats, or a giant expensive cat tree! Think outside the box!

Hi there! While I totally support sending cat toys to people as valentines, it’s not incredibly realistic to expect that to happen for every valentine’s day bouquet sent today, and the amount of danger to cats varies from flower to flower- there’s some misinformation here that might be kind of dangerous. I’m not sure why you mentioned roses, which are not actually toxic to cats and are safe in bouquets. Your cat can’t really digest them well, and will likely throw up and not be incredibly happy about those thorns, but there’s a big, big difference between that and something that will UNEQUIVOCALLY kill or seriously sicken them if they they get too curious. Lilies are one of the scarier ones, as just one leaf can cause serious renal failure and death, and nephrotoxic compounds are present in every part of the plant. One of the biggest issues with lilies is how much pollen is on them- even if a cat doesn’t try to eat it and you’ve trained them not to touch flowers, if your baby brushes up against this flower and gets the pollen on its fur and then licks itself, which it likely will, it WILL get extremely sick and even still possibly die. (source)

So, please do heed the above post. Cats don’t need to be actively chewing on a lily to get really really sick from them. And when talking about toxicity, it’s really important not to equate bouquet flowers like roses, which while a cat can’t digest certainly won’t kill them, to lilies, which can immediately cause death.

And it’s actually possible to make cat-safe bouquets! While no bouquet flower will be incredibly nutritious or beneficial to your cat if he decides to chow down on it (and he’ll likely have some mild vomiting later, because cats can’t digest super fibrous plants) that’s the same for most non-toxic houseplants. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not recommending that you feed your kitty roses, but it’s a similar principle to cat grass- a cat ingesting a plant and then throwing it up because he can’t digest it is NOT the same as a cat ingesting a toxic plant and then dying from renal failure.

The ASPCA has a great list of non-toxic flowers your kitty can be around this Valentine’s day, as long as he doesn’t go hog wild on them! If you do have a cat that likes to voraciously eat every plant, it might be best go with the advice above and grab him a cat toy- otherwise, it should be okay.

The list is here, and it includes common bouquet flowers like snapdragons, many types of daisies, celosia, roses, sunflowers, alstroemeria (good lily substitutes), and bachelor’s buttons. They also have a list here that tells you the species that are toxic to your furry buds, and a search function to let you check.

Keep your pets safe, be REALLY AWARE of what flowers are common and very dangerous (narcissus, tulips, peonies, lilies, etc), but don’t be afraid to have flowers around if you’ve checked them- it’s definitely not impossible. Happy Valentine’s Day!

shadow-natural:

a little note for everyone:

you are allowed to be LGBTQA+ and religious

it is ok to be both

they are not mutually exclusive

and when people jokingly refer to being gay as sinning,

don’t pay attention to them

because they don’t have religion in their lives the way we do

you are also allowed to be questioning,

“"How can I serve and love God the way I want to while also being my true self?”

because guess what?

not every LGBTQA+ person is an atheist or a non-believer

so here’s a shoutout to the Christian LGBTQA+

and the Muslim LGBTQA+

and the Jewish LGBTQA+

and the Buddhist LGBTQA+

and every other religion that you may believe in

religion can coexist with your sexual identity and your gender identity

you are loved by God and by me

Thank

reblogging again bc I already got some from really cute people, but it makes me unreasonably happy to read these from you SO KEEP ON SENDING THEM

I know Valentine’s day can get some people down, but Valentines doesn’t have to be about romantic relationships. It can be about friends or even strangers! So if today is particularly hard on you, or you’ve just been looking for an excuse to talk to me, PM me! Doesn’t even have to be answers to these questions, tell me anything you want. :)
